Due to the votes of the public, the Food Pillory Project won the category Publicly Beneficial Service of the award of the Czech Internet called Magnifying Glass. It is already for the third time in the row. “We regard the award as appraisal of the public expressed to all CAFIA employees, without whose effort, the success will not be possible. We also perceive it as a commitment to the future, as the “stakeholders” of the project are all taxpayers of the Czech Republic,” Jindřich Pokora, Director of the Control, Laboratories and Certification Department, said in the course of the ceremonial announcement in the Archa Theatre.
Food Pillory Project was launched in July 2012 as a
web portal that has been visited by more than 2,900,000 consumers so far. The consumers have already opened over 28 million of websites, i.e. an average visitor displays information on almost ten non-compliant foodstuffs. In 2013, the project was extended by a
mobile application for smartphones and tablets with operating systems Android, Windows Phone and iOS. The application was installed by no less than 45,000 users, which is regarded as an outstanding success. This year, CAFIA established accounts on social networks
Facebook which is followed by more than 10,000 fans and
Twiter with more than 2,000 followers. 12,000 users further registered for regular subscription of news by e-mail, of which c. 2,500,000 were already sent.
CAFIA operates the Food Pillory Project and since launched, consumers found details on 1,098 non-compliant lots of foodstuffs which were found on the Czech market. The project is unique due to the extent of its openness and details with which the public is informed on non-compliant foodstuffs. Each item includes information on the name of the goods, producer, place of sale, producing lot and further information necessary for orientation of consumers.
