Food inspection identifies a food supplement containing the unauthorised medicinal substance sildenafil, which may pose a health risk to consumers

04/13/2026

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), during an inspection of online sales, identified the presence of an unauthorised medicinal substance in the food supplement VIP POWER suspension 10 × 9 g (90 g), without a stated minimum durability date or batch number.

Distributor: Proxala s.r.o., Jaurisova 4, 140 00 Prague, Czech Republic, ountry of origin: Bulgaria.

Inspectors obtained the non-compliant sample through a test purchase from the website www.vippower.cz.

Laboratory analysis conducted in an accredited CAFIA laboratory confirmed the presence of sildenafil—an active substance used in medicinal products intended for the treatment of erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension, which are available only in pharmacies and strictly on prescription.

For this reason, CAFIA submitted the sample for expert assessment to the National Institute of Public Health (NIPB). With regard to the amount of the detected substance in the recommended daily dose, NIPB evaluated the product as highly risky to the health of sensitive or not fully healthy consumers. The product was assessed as harmful to health under Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 due to the presence of sildenafil at a level corresponding to a therapeutic dose.

CAFIA has ordered the inspected operator to accept returns of the product from consumers if requested. The operator stated that it has already withdrawn the product from the market.

Food supplements are foods that represent concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals, or other substances with a nutritional effect. As they are foods and not medicinal products, they must not contain medicinal substances.

CAFIA strongly recommends that all consumers who have this product at home do not consume it as a precaution.
