Food Inspection Authority investigates the detection of dioxin in a food additive from India

The Health and Consumer Protection Directorate General of the European Commission informed through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed – RASFF (National Contact Point for the CR is the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority) of detection of dioxin and pentachlorophenol in thickener E 412-unpolymerized guar gum originating in India. Its producer is India Glycols LTD.

The guar gum was imported from India to Switzerland from where it was imported to the Czech Republic by Agrana Fruit Bohemia, Kaplice. The Inspection Authority performed an inspection at this company which immediately informed all its purchasers.

So far, the CAFIA has taken several tens of samples of guar gum E-412 produced both by the India Glycosl LTD and by other Indian producers. The placing on the market of this product has been suspended and further action will be taken after laboratory analyses.

E 412 – unpolymerized guar gum is an authorized food additive used in production as a thickener.
