However, the laboratories of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority have been still performing analyses of half-fermented wine. CAFIA has been continuously releasing the results of analyses of half-fermented wine already for several years.
The last but one results of this year revealed three further cases of adulterated half-fermented wine sold by the company E.S.E., Ltd. based in Miroslav. Both unauthorised diluting with water and adding synthetic colours to red half-fermented wine were examined. In total six cases of adulterated half-fermented wine sold at stalls of the company E.S.E., Ltd. have been thus revealed this year so far. This half-fermented wine was sold in various places of the Czech Republic (
refer to the press release of 9 November).
Since 2006, since when CAFIA has been performing analyses of half-fermented wine in the own laboratories on the unique IRMS device (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectroscopy), so many non-complying samples taken at one company have not been experienced. Furthermore, this is for the first time when an artificial colouring was detected besides water dilution. By adding synthetic colourings, red half-fermented wine can be produced of white half-fermented wine or diluting of red-half fermented wine with water can be camouflaged. Both practices are inadmissible from the point of view of law – they are unauthorised enological procedures through which the adulterator enrich himself at the expense of consumers.
Nine further analysed samples taken at other companies complied with the requirements of the legislation.
