In connection with the case of Irish meat contamined with dioxins, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority examined the origin of packaged jointed meat marketed in retail chains. According to original information, the case related to pork only (see CAFIA press release of 9 December 2008), however, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland further revealed that Irish beef was concerned as well, nevertheless in lower extent. However, no information confirming that beef in question had been distributed to the CR has not been received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed yet.
Unlike pork, Irish beef is sold in Czech retail chains. Therefore the Food Inspection Authority performed inspections in premises of all retail chains for prevention. These premises were selected in advance. If inspectors revealed packaged beef from Ireland, samples were taken to the laboratory for analyses on the content of dioxins. This way five samples of meat were taken in three retail chains.
At the present time, results of all samples are already available. The presence of dioxins exceeding limits was not detected in any of them.
The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority performs inspections of packaged meat and products thereof which are marketed in retails. Imports, processing and production of these products are supervised by the State Veterinary Administration.
