Food Inspection Authority advises consumers to be cautious when buying dried dates

11/14/2007

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found pests in a consignment of dried dates from Tunisia. The product concerned is called “Dates Sweetened Fruit” (“Datle Proslazené ovoce”) from the manufacturer CDD 8099 Z. JEDIDI TUNESIE, batches L: 035/03, L: 039/03, and L: 40/03. Dates are packed in immediate packaging (small plastic container wrapped in cling film), 200g, best before 30/09/2008. The consignment was delivered to the Czech Republic trough France.

The CAFIA immediately banned further distribution of dates and contaminated batches are being withdrawn from the market. The batch L: 40/03 has not reached the market at all; however, there is a likelihood that part of other batches can still be present in retail stores.

The Food Inspection Authority sent information on the presence of pests in dates through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed to the European Commission
