DRIED VEGETABLES ON THE CZECH MARKET COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH SAFETY

06/20/2001

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority carried out inspections of dried vegetables with focus on the contents of contaminants. The CAFIA inspectors took altogether 28 samples of dried vegetables mainly from domestic producers between March and May this year. The laboratory analyses confirmed that all samples taken - with one exception only - complied with the prescribed limits for the contents of nitrates, pesticide residues and preservatives, which was sulphur dioxide in these particular cases.

A slightly higher value of nitrates than the maximum residue limit was detected in one product only, the "Parsley Leaves". The detected content of nitrates was however not so high that the product might have been assessed as representing a potential risk to human health. The producer was imposed a ban on releasing the product into circulation.

The inspection identified non-conformances in labelling in 9 cases and adopted corrective actions. The producers shall be imposed penalties in Administrative Actions for contravening obligations arising from the Food Law.
