Director General of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) Mr. Jakub Šebesta today in Brno negotiated with representatives of the fifteen largest commercial chains operating super and hypermarkets in the Czech Republic.
The participants in the meeting were mainly discussing the causes and consequences of serious breaches of the Food Act identified by the Food Inspection Authority in last weeks in shops. Continuing and repeated similar failures were debated as well as ways of achieving a remedy. The participants in the meeting agreed that the common objective of both the Food Inspection Authority and commercial chain operators is food safety on the Czech market and that it is necessary to find ways how to reach this objective the most effectively.
After a detailed analysis of this year’s inspection results, the CAFIA came to the conclusion that one of the possible causes of deficiencies the CAFIA has been identifying are apparently insufficiently effective internal control systems of some companies.
For this reason, CAFIA Director General discussed with representatives of commercial chains how CAFIA’s alarming findings are reflected in modifications to their management systems.
He offered to all participating companies the possibility of sending information about serious deficiencies identified by the CAFIA at individual outlets directly to the responsible top managers.
He also agreed with representatives that they would provide the CAFIA with manuals of their internal control systems which should already contain measures that should prevent similar deficiencies. The Inspection Authority will use this information to inform particular responsible managers in serious cases as quickly as possible. The CAFIA will evaluate this measure in the course of the following year.
