Dietary supplement from the USA not allowed to enter the Czech market

07/04/2013

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) in cooperation with the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic prevented dietary supplements from the USA to enter the market due to the content of prohibited substance NAC (N-acetylcysteine). Content of the product Nature’s Plus COMMANDO 2000 was not in compliance with national legal provisions and the supply of 51 packages (60 pills per package) was withheld in customs area at Vaclav Havel Prague Airport. Effective substance NAC (N-acetylcysteine) influences muscles regeneration, but according to the Czech Republic legal provisions it is not allowed to be used in food industry including dietary supplements.
Notification on forbidden foodstuff was input by the national contact point at CAFIA to the European rapid alert system (RASFF).
