The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority has obtained the certificate of quality management system for “Performance of activities of administrative authority carrying out state supervision in the field of foodstuffs and selected products“ already in 2005.
Company BVQI carried out a supervisory audit every year, within its scope the company examined whether the quality management system in place is kept and advanced. In September of this year, a re-certification audit was carried out at several Inspectorates as well as at the Headquarters. The aim was to prolong validity of the certificate.
Within the audit, representatives of company Bureau Veritas Certification (former BVQI) checked whether requirements of the standard ISO 9001 and legislation were met and whether employees proceeded in compliance with CAFIA internal provisions. They examined planning and assessing inspections, carried out a random check of inspection materials and they also verified calibration of measuring instruments used during inspections or controlling the CAFIA information system. They monitored activities of inspectors directly in the field, as they participated in several inspections such as handling consumer’s suggestion. The audit was very thorough, but no deficiencies were revealed.
Among others, the auditors examined how CAFIA is prepared for dealing with extraordinary situations which could occur in case of serious disruption of food safety in the CR. However, neither in this case any deficiencies were found out, quite to the contrary. “We can note that preparedness of CAFIA to handle both critical and non-standard situations is on extraordinary high level and follows in particularly from significant awareness of responsibility laid down by applicable legislation“, Jiří Vaníček from Bureau Veritas Certification said in the final report.
The conclusion of the re-certification audit was clear – ISO 9001:2001 certificate was prolonged until 2011.
