In first two weeks of March the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority warned the public of two batches of infant water Horský pramen in five litre packagings at which the contamination with foreign organic substances (e. g. toluene, chloroform, dichlorbrommethane) was confirmed by means of laboratory analyses. On the grounds of laboratory analyses carried out by accredited laboratories which were presented to inspectors at a subsequent control by producer of these infant waters, i. e. company Jesenické prameny Nová Pláň, a.s., a probable contamination source was revealed. It was the packagings used.
The producer had both the preforms and five litre PET bottles made of them analyzed. Laboratories revealed a high content of toluene in these materials. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority passed all the documents to these findings to the authorities of public health protection which are competent to control safety of packagings used for foodstuffs, as stipulated by law.
Company Jesenické prameny Nová Pláň, a.s. cooperates with CAFIA responsibly and in an exemplary manner. At the control it presented laboratory analyses of infant waters from different batches, at which CAFIA suspended placing on the market from preventive reasons already on 5 March. It follows from the analyses that analyzed samples complied with the requirements of the legislation as regards the toluene and free chlorine content. On the grounds of CAFIA examination the producer decided to close production of five litre packagings of infant water and destroyed all five litre packagings on stock and also those withdrawn from his purchasers.
All CAFIA findings concern only the infant water Horský pramen in five litre packagings, preforms for production of two litre packagings originate from a different supplier.
