The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), as part of an extraordinary inspection campaign focused on the retail sale of powdered infant milk containing arachidonic acid and on determining the presence of the toxin cereulide and the bacterium Bacillus cereus, has suspended the following food product at the inspected operator due to suspicion that it is unsafe:
Nutrilon Advanced Good Night 1, infant formula (0–6 months), weight 800 g, best before: 10 November 2026, additional marking under BBD: 111511173, other information: Contact for the Czech Republic: Danone a.s., V parku 2294/2, 148 00 Prague 4 – Chodov.
Laboratory analysis conducted in an accredited CAFIA laboratory confirmed the presence of the toxin cereulide in the assessed batch at a concentration of 0.63 µg/kg (micrograms per kilogram) of the product. Based on the recommended dosage, this corresponds to an exposure of 0.022 µg/kg of body weight for a newborn.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has established an acute reference dose (ARfD) for cereulide at 0.014 µg/kg of body weight, i.e. the amount that can be ingested over a short period without expected adverse health effects.
The National Institute of Public Health has been asked to carry out a risk assessment.
CAFIA recommends that consumers do not consume the specified batch.
Inspectors collected the product batch from Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Masarykova 873, 757 01 Valašské Meziříčí, and have already ordered an immediate suspension of its sale.
If it is confirmed that the product is unsafe, administrative proceedings will be initiated against the inspected operator to impose a fine, and CAFIA will enter the information into the RASFF system to enable follow-up investigation in the country of origin.
