Consumer Warning: Detection of Infant Formula with Cereulide on the Domestic Market

02/23/2026

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), as part of an extraordinary inspection campaign focused on dried infant milk formulas containing arachidonic acid to determine the presence of the toxin cereulide and the bacterium Bacillus cereus, identified the following food product harmful to health on the Czech market:

Happy Mimi 1 infant formula, powdered initial infant milk formula, for infants from birth (if not breastfed) up to the completed 6th month, package size: 400 g, batch: Batch 3418, with a minimum durability date (MDD) of 28 July 2027, manufacturer: not stated, country of origin: Estonia, supplier: Dana Europe OÜ, Kollane 8-7, Tallinn, Estonia, distributor: Solvent ČR s.r.o., Poděbradská 1162, Šestajovice.

Laboratory analysis conducted in an accredited CAFIA laboratory confirmed the presence of the toxin cereulide in the assessed batch at a concentration of 0.015 micrograms per kilogram (µg/kg) of a newborn’s body weight.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommended setting the acute reference dose (ARfD) for cereulide in infants at 0.014 µg/kg body weight.

In view of these circumstances, the batch in question was evaluated by the National Institute of Public Health as harmful to health within the meaning of Article 14(2)(a) of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002.

CAFIA recommends that consumers do not consume the specified batch of the product.

Inspectors collected the batch in question at a branch of Teta drogerie a lékárny ČR s.r.o. and have already ordered its withdrawal from the market and recall from consumers.

Administrative proceedings will be initiated against the inspected entity to impose a fine.

CAFIA will enter the information into the RASFF system so that further investigation can be carried out in the country of origin of the food.

Foreign manufacturers informed customers and consumers about the voluntary and preventive recall of certain batches of infant and baby foods (see CAFIA notices dated 19 December 2025 and 9 January, 25 January, 28 January, and 10 February 2026). The information was also shared on CAFIA’s social media channels – “Food on the Pillory” (Facebook, Instagram, X). In all cases, the reason was suspected possible contamination with the toxin cereulide.

With regard to the potential risk and the target group, CAFIA promptly investigated all notifications from the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), particularly with respect to overseeing the immediate withdrawal of the batches concerned from the market and informing customers and consumers by the operators themselves, who are legally obliged to do so.

The above-mentioned sample of Happy Mimi 1 infant formula was officially taken as part of the extraordinary inspection campaign on dried infant milk formulas containing arachidonic acid and represents the first non-compliant sample; all other samples assessed so far by CAFIA have complied with the monitored parameters. The public will be informed without delay of any further non-compliant infant formulas.
