The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) entered into the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) information on detection of unsafe raw material intended for production of dried candied fruit “Ananas kostky – příchuť MANGO” (Pineapple cubes – Mango flavour) originated in Thailand. Use by date of the lot was 31. 12.2 014. Laboratory analysis revealed that the content of colour E110 - Sunset Yellow SY was thirteen times above the legal limit. The amount of the colour was 132 mg/kg, although the maximum permitted level is 10 mg/kg only.
Importer Ing. Bohumil Kratochvíl - IBK TRADE, based in Dolanská 7/337, 161 00, Prague, purchased 500 kg of the unsatisfactory lot from foreign partner Vanda Preserved Food Co. Ltd., based in 57 Moo 7 Tambol, Saentor, Tamaka, Kanchanaburi in Thailand. Out of 500 kg, 380 kg was sold to two producers in the Czech Republic, and 120 kg remained in the storehouse of IBK TRADE. Due to the fact that the unsafe lot of raw material was detained by CAFIA during processing – before the foodstuff was into circulation, consumers were thus not endangered. CAFIA initiated an administration procedure on imposition of a fine with the importer.
