CAFIA warns consumers against poppy seeds with pesticides exceeding the limit

01/02/2017

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found a non-compliant lot of poppy seeds “Dr. Rashid MÁK MLETÝ 100%” containing pesticide residue picoxystrobin. The lot concerned was detected in Penny Market s.r.o.

Laboratory analysis proved presence of picoxystrobin amounting to 0.084 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) which is eight times higher than the permitted limit. The poppy seeds in question cannot be regarded as suitable for human consumption. CAFIA recommends consumers they do not eat it.

The foodstuff labelled by best before date by 31st May 2017 and lot L228620 came from producer Alika a.s. based in Čelčice near Prostějov.

CAFIA ordered the inspected person to immediately withdraw the lot of the poppy seeds in question from all its branches and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine.
