The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) strongly warns consumers against purchasing foodstuffs, in particular food supplements from unverified Internet sources.
CAFIA inspectors ordered two food supplements: (1) Bruhat Vata Chintamani Rasa STANDARD Quality Suvaranakalpa, 10 tablets and (2.) Bruhat Vata Chintamani Rasa PREMIUM Quality Suvaranakalpa, 10 tablets. The products purchased via the Internet auction service eBay were made by Indian company Shree Dhootapapeshwar Ltd., 135, Nanubhai Desai Road, Khetwani, Mumbai 400 004, Maharashtra, an entity selling on www.ebay.com under name “Saurabh-enterprises”. Company “saurabh sonavane navdurga rahivasi seva sangh, gandhi nagar, galli no-6 Near shiv sena shaka, kurar village, mumbai - 400097, Maharashtra, India” is concerned.
in an utterly unique amount: in case of product Bruhat Vata Chintamani Rasa STANDARD Quality, the analysis confirmed presence of mercury amounting to 164,000 mg/kg (mercury thus represented 16.4% of the product). As regards product Bruhat Vata Chintamani Rasa PREMIUM Quality, the analysis confirmed presence of mercury no lower than 76,500 mg/kg (the proportion of mercury on the total weight of the products was thus 7.7%). The maximum limit for presence of mercury laid down by European legislation is 0.10 mg/kg.
CAFIA entered the information into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and will ask for withdrawal of these products from the auction service eBay.
CAFIA inspectors took a sample upon a consumer’s suggestion; CAFIA had already warned the public in its press release of 8th April 2019.
