The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority warns consumers against following foodstuff unsuitable for human consumption which is present in the retail network: Tea in bags Babička Růženka Sedmero bylin with Echinacea, lot description  L 09111630 C, best before date: 9th November 2018, producer: MOKATE S.A., Katowicka 265a, 43-450 Ustroň, Poland.

Laboratory analysis carried out by CAFIA proved presence of so-called tropan alkaloids in the lot in question – atropine amounting to 72 micrograms per kilogram (μg/kg) and scopolamine amounting to 23 μg/kg. According to the assessment of health risks carried out by the National Health Institute, this tea is unsuitable for human consumption. This conclusion stems from the detected amount of the mentioned substances.

CAFIA inspectors sampled the deficient lot at the wholesale storage of company MOKATE Czech s.r.o. on Počernická street 96/272 in Prague. According to the preliminary information, thousands of pieces of the deficient lot could be present in the retail network. CAFIA ordered the inspected person to withdraw the given products from the market and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine.

CAFIA entered relevant information into the European Rapid Alert System RASFF.

CAFIA recommends all consumers who have the given lot at home that they do not eat it.
