CAFIA revealed extensive adulteration of Alaskan cod filets

02/21/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected a case of significant adulteration of meat proportion at foodstuff “Alaskan cod – filet, frozen, glazing 35%”, use by date by: 14th September 2019, country of origin: China. Inspectors took the sample at the premises of Řeznictví H+H (butcher shop) on Havlíčkova street in Nový Jičín.

The seller indicated on the labelling that the foodstuff contained 65% of meat and 35% of glazing, which is the ice film on the surface of the fish. The analysis of the sample proved presence of meat amounting to 24.9% of weight only. Indicating this untrue information on the labelling, the inspected person misled consumers.

Subsequent analysis carried out on the fillet after dripping of the glazing showed that the fish content in the filet, which was supposed to be 100%, amounted to 40.8% only.

Company MISIEK Krzysztof Misiolek, Vysoká 58, Vysoká 793 99 was the supplier of the foodstuff in question.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
