CAFIA releases its Annual Report for 2015

04/21/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) releases its Annual Report for 2015. The Report is available on the CAFIA websites.

In the last year, CAFIA carried out 43 483 inspections in food business premises, thus by 20% more compared to the previous year. Out of this number, CAFIA inspectors carried out 21 710 inspection entries into retails, 5 051 into public catering premises, 8 296 into production and 3 828 into other premises, i.e. into warehouses, customs storages and primary production. CAFIA has been authorised to carry out inspections in public catering premises by law since 1st January 2015.

The most defective foodstuffs as regards their origin came from so-called third countries, at which 32.3% of inspected lots failed to comply with national or European regulations. As regards foodstuffs originating in the EU countries, 20.6% of inspected lots failed, domestic foodstuffs failed in 14.9% of cases. CAFIA detected 3 841 of non-compliant lots of foodstuffs in 2015.

The most problematic commodities are chocolates and confectionary products (71% of non-compliant lots from all inspected lots, quality deficiencies are most frequently concerned), honey (45%, typical adulteration by sugar sirups, failures to comply with quality parameters), dehydrated products (38%, quality) and wine (36%, e.g. adulteration of the origin and adding of sugar which is not permitted). To the contrary, the least problematic commodities are natural sweeteners (0%), cereals (2%) and other than grape wines (4%).

Official inspection in 2015 confirmed traditional high level of Czech producers and foodstuffs.
