10/11/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) revealed misleading of consumers by Hungarian plant oil Vénusz – Edible plant oil, single-component sunflower oil, sold in volume à 1l.

Laboratory analysis proved that it was not single component sunflower oil as indicated on the labelling of the name of the product in question. The value of fat acids which was detected by the analysis confirmed that the oil was not obtained solely from sunflower seeds. Addition of different than sunflower oil created tens of percent of the packaging intended for consumers. Labelling of the product thus mislead consumers.

CAFIA sampled the oil in the retail network of company AHOLD Czech Republic a.s. The oil was labelled by best before date by 10th June 2017 and it was produced by company Bunge Zrt., 1134 Budapest, Váci út 33., Hungary.

The Authority ordered the inspected person to withdraw the lot concerned from the market and to carry out a laboratory analysis of the further lot on his own expenses.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
