CAFIA notifies consumers of “non-alcoholic beer” with alcohol

05/06/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company CZECH BEVERAGE INDUSTRY COMPANY, Na Valentince 644/15, 150 00 Prague 5, Czech Republic (premises Vyškov, nám. Čsl. armády 116/4, 682 01 Vyškov), to immediately notify all its customers and to ensure withdrawal of non-alcohol drink labelled as “Vyškovské pivo ALKOSTOP” with best before date by 19th September 2016. Laboratory analysis of the sample taken directly at the producer proved presence of 1.6% vol. of alcohol in the product in question. The producer thus violated Decree No. 335/1997 Coll., which provides for the maximum admissible limit for non-alcoholic beers no more than 0.5 % vol. At the same time the producer failed to comply with his own declaration on the labelling indicating the volume of alcohol no higher than 0.5%. Consumption of beer containing amount of alcohol which is higher than declared may cause complications during common life situations, e.g. driving a vehicle.

CAFIA further ordered the producer to carry out an analysis of two consecutive lots of the beverage concerned before placed on the market. The analysis shall be carried out in an accredited laboratory on the expenses of the producer. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the operator.
