CAFIA launches Twitter profile and new services at the occasion of 2 years' anniversary of the Food Pillory project

Information on 1,635 unwholesome foodstuffs has already been published on the Food Pillory that was launched 2 years ago by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority. “The joint project of CAFIA and the Ministry of Agriculture significantly contributed to higher level of quality of provided information concerning food supervision and results of inspection activities. Food Pillory is important in particular because consumers can obtain detailed information on detected malpractices. The name, producer, place of sale, producing lot and the type of deficiency are published at each defective foodstuff”, Marian Jurečka, Minister of Agriculture, said.
Consumers can obtain information in a comfort way by means of the portal potravinynapranyri.cz, mobile application and Facebook profile. Not only the interest of consumers, but also double victory in the Magnifying Glass Award, the Award of the Czech Internet in 2012 a 2013, and Mobile Application of the YearAwardin 2014 show the popularity and public support of the project. The Food Pillory webpage has been visited by 2,800,000 visitors so far, the mobile application has been downloaded by 30,000 users and the FB profile has almost 8,000 fans.
CAFIA is today launching a new communication channel of the Food Pillory project, namely a profile on the social network Twitter with its address @NaPranyri. “After launching the Facebook profile, creation of the Twitter account is regarded as further logical step by which we accommodate in particular younger consumers that prefer less formal way of communication on social networks”, Martin Klanica, Director General of CAFIA, said during the press conference held today. According to the information provided by sociological research, people under age of 25 represent a significant part of so-called risk consumers who knowingly ignore the quality and partly also safety of foodstuffs.
The website and the mobile application of the Food Pillory are developed on a continuous basis according to the findings of CAFIA and also wishes of consumers. CAFIA today opens up a new function of mobile application, by which means consumers can display information on the premises in their surroundings in their mobile phones and tablets. Information on the sale of defective foodstuffs found by CAFIA, namely in the form of an interactive map. At the occasion of the 2 years' anniversary of the functioning of the Food Pillory, CAFIA created a new design of the Food Pillory website that follows current trends and at the same time adjusts the organisation of the information on the website to be better arranged and visitors could thus find the most relevant data.
