CAFIA inspectors closed 105 premises for serious hygiene deficiencies in 2016

07/08/2016

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) continue with intensive checks of hygiene requirements in public catering premises and at other food business operators. The results of the inspections carried out in the first half of 2016 show that the awareness of elementary obligations in the field of food legislation still remains week.

Since 1st January 2016, CAFFIA inspectors had to close a total of 105 premises, out of which 2 premises were wholesales, 10 premises of small-sized producers and the largest proportion was represented by retails and public catering premises. The main reason for the closing was significant violation of hygiene regulations.

Catering segment is repeatedly the problematic one – restaurants, fast foods, beerhouses, confectionaries, etc. The inspectors imposed a ban on the use of the premises in 47 cases. Particular reasons to do so were neglected cleaning in the form of layers of grease, dust and food leavings on kitchen equipment, floors and food storages, further mildew on walls and failure to dispose waste, etc.

Similar situation is in the retail segment, where CAFIA imposed ban on the use of the premises of 46 operators. The most frequent reasons for closing this type of premises was occurrence of pests in storages as well as on selling areas, foodstuffs damaged by gnawing, failure to ensure the premises against the access of rodents and long-term neglected cleaning.

Details including pictures are available on the Food Pillory website in the Premises section.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the operators concerned. With regard to the present results, CAFIA will continue with inspections in the second half of 2016 as well.
