01/22/2015

In 2014 the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) lawfully concluded 1.861 administrative procedures with food business operators. Within these administrative procedures, fines amounting to 99,429,300.- CZK were imposed. The total amount of fines lawfully imposed in 2014 was thus by 55% higher compared to 64,121,500.- CZK which was the amount of fines imposed in 2013.
Martin Klanica, CAFIA Director General, says: “In the long term and with regard to the situation on the market when many operators ignore serious CAFIA detections and repeat the same violations, we will impose fines that suit the purpose and have sufficient discouraging effect. Despite this message, many operators did not change their attitude. We will continue in significant inspection pressure to the benefit of consumers in the forthcoming period.”
In 2014 CAFIA inspectors carried out 35,361 inspections of food premises, customs warehouses and internet shops. Out of this number, 65% of inspections were carried out in retail, 24% in production, 7% in wholesales, 3% in customs warehouses and 1% at other places (for example during transport, etc.).
