CAFIA has closed 76 food business premises since the beginning of the year

04/13/2016

This years’ results of inspections of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) show that the situation in the area of hygiene in food premises remains on very unsatisfactory level. Since 1st January until 12th April 2016, CAFIA inspectors had to close 76 premises because of serious violations of hygiene requirements. The situation differs according to the type of business activities. The lowest frequency of serious violations was detected in the sector of foodstuffs on non-animal origin where 7 premises have been closed so far.

In the given period, the inspectors imposed ban on the use of the premises for significant violations of hygiene requirements in 34 retails. Failures to ensure areas against the access of pests or sometimes even presence of pests in the premises or detected foodstuffs which are gnawed are the most frequent reasons for that. Sometimes inspectors close the premises from the reason of neglected cleaning and failure to dispose wastes.

Since January 2016 CAFIA inspectors closed 35 restaurants and further premises providing public catering. The reasons for closing were in particular neglected cleaning in the form of layers of grease, dust and leftovers on kitchen equipment, floors, storages, etc. CAFIA carried out more than 3,000 inspections in public catering premises this year and violations of legislation were found out in 34% of premises being inspected.

Details including pictures are available on the Food Pillory website in the Section Premises.
