Total amount of 320 litres of spirit drinks without required documents on their origin – in particular “birth certificates” and invoices were found by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) in an illegal storage of company ALTALIMO s.r.o. CAFIA immediately imposed ban on putting the goods into retail network. During the inspections carried out on 29. 1. and 30. 1. 2013 at the premises of the given company based on Mattoniho nábřeží 204/21, 360 01 Karlovy Vary, CAFIA identified 254 pieces of consumer packages of spirit drinks with label of company Likérka Drak s.r.o. and 385 pieces of consumer packages of spirit drinks with label of company Milan Kwaczek. The operator did not have mandatory title deeds and he was not able to give any evidence of the origin. A part of the spirit drinks was not labelled with the production lot. Given the fact above, it was not possible to identify the products as regards the origin of spirit, and pursuant to Act No. 110/1997 Coll., they are foodstuffs of unknown origin which is not allowed to be put into circulation.
The operator further violated Act No. 110/1997 Coll. as he failed to register the food business – the storage with foodstuffs and spirit drinks – at the respective CAFIA Inspectorate and attempted thus to avoid the execution of inspection. Besides the assortment of spirit drinks, the Inspection Authority also found a storage of non-alcoholic beverages, wine, beer, sugar, coffee, and confectionery products. The total area of the non-registered storage is c. 1,000m2. Due to the fact that the storage was flooded out during the inspection and appropriate hygienic conditions for storing and putting goods on the market were not ensured, and the premises were not ensured against pests sufficiently, the Inspection Authority imposed ban on the use of the premises.
CAFIA detected the illegal storage within its investigation of the origin of illegal alcohol in retail network. The inspection was carried out at the assistance of the Police of the Czech Republic and the Customs Authorities. An administrative procedure will be initiated with the operator for the given violations of food legislation.
