CAFIA found Polish apples with unauthorised amount of pesticide

12/23/2016

Within an inspection focused on detection of foreign substances in fresh fruit sold on the domestic market, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found apples contaminated by unauthorised amount of pesticide chlorpyrifos. Inspectors took the sample from a deficient lot at the premises of MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o.  Apples Golden Delicious are concerned. The lot in question was sent to the CR by company APPLEX SP Z.O.O., Sadkowice, Poland.

The analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory revealed presence of pesticide chlorpyrifos amounting to 0.084 microgram per kilogram (mg/kg) in the sample of apples, which is eightfold higher than the permitted limit, which is 0.01 mg/kg. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
