CAFIA found imported raisins contaminated with toxins

12/23/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned company Penny Market s.r.o. from selling raisins of brand ENSA packaged à 500 g, labelled by best before date by 31st  July 2017, lot: E03160323C.

The laboratory analysis confirmed presence of ochratoxin A exceeding the limit. The raisins contained 32.84 microgram per kilogram (μg/kg), which is threefold higher amount than the maximum permitted limit, which is 10 μg/kg only. Ochratoxin A is a substance produced by mould and its consumption causes undesirable effects on human health.

Slovakian company Encinger SK, spol. s.r.o., Jadranská 13, Bratislava was the producer of the foodstuff in question.

Inspected person was ordered to immediately withdraw the lot concerned from all its branches. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

To protect costumers' interests, the inspected person was further ordered to carry out a laboratory analysis of three further lots of this foodstuff on his own expenses.
