CAFIA found further lots of adulterated frozen sea fish

05/19/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) recently found an increased occurrence of serious adulteration of frozen fish products in particular from abroad. A range of producers supplements up to 50% of fish meat in the foodstuff concerned with water or further ingredients and misleads thus consumers. For an overview of adulterated fish products found in recent 6 months, see www.potravinynapranyri.cz, section “Fish, aquatic animals”.

Following cases were recently found by CAFIA inspectors:

Aljašská treska filets (Alaskan cod) packaged à 3,000 g with best before date until 13th January 2017, country of origin: China, importer: Frigoexim s.r.o., Březinova cesta 136 Litoměřice, CR. Producer indicated on the labelling: “weight 3,000 g, … net weight after dripping 2,400g“ (i.e. content of meat 80%), however, laboratory analysis confirmed meat content amounting to 46,7% only.  CAFIA inspectors took the non-compliant sample at the premises of company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o. and ordered the operator to immediately withdraw the non-compliant lot from its retail network.

Aro Aljašská Treska (Alaskan cod) packaged à 10 x 100g with best before date until 12th  January 2017, producer: Projektmarket Ing Michal Gögh, Šafárikova 23, 946 03, Kolárovo, SR. Producer indicated on the labelling: “Composition: Aljašská treska 80%“, however, laboratory analysis confirmed meat content amounting to 70,7% only. CAFIA inspectors took the non-compliant sample at the premises of company Dagmar Vilkusová, Náměstí J. A. Komenského 1, 73944 Brušperk. Company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o. was then the supplier of the products.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons. With regard to the unsatisfactory results of the inspections in the segment of frozen fish products, CAFIA will continue with focusing on this assortment.
