CAFIA found food supplement with several times lower content of magnesium and calcium

05/07/2021

Within an inspection of Internet sale, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected non-compliant food supplement Univitalis Vápník Horčík Zinek+ (Univitalis Calcium Magnesium Zinc+) in a plastic container containing 100 capsules, best before date by 30th September 2022, producer: Unistry s.r.o.

The producer stated, inter alia, on the food labelling: Content: 392 mg calcium, 152 mg magnesium.

However, a laboratory analysis confirmed presence of magnesium amounting to 37.2 milligrams (mg) per one capsule and 158 mg of calcium per one capsule.

The producer thus labelled the food supplement with misleading information as regards its real content and violated Regulation (EC) No. 1169/2011.

Inspectors ordered the producer to perform analysis of the content at his own expenses before another lot is placed on the market and ensure thus that consumers will not be misled.

The inspectors sampled the product on “www.univitalis.cz”.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
