The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company AHOLD Czech Republic, a. s. to immediately withdraw adulterated foodstuff from its retail network. Following product is concerned: Nile tilapia, filets without bones and skine with added water – glazed, packaged à 500 g, best before date: 21. 9. 2017, lot: LVV045T1603, country of origin: China, imported into the EU: Frigoexim s.r.o., Litoměřice.
The producer indicated on the labelling that the weight is 500 g and the net weight after dripping (without glazing) was 375 g. However, the laboratory analysis carried out by CAFIA by means of so-called drip-off method and nitrogen method showed that the real meat content was 295 g only. The analysis showed that higher amount of ice glazing than indicated on the labelling was present on the surface of the fish. The analysis further revealed that added water was also put inside the fish meat during the previous part of the production process, although consumers were not informed of this fact on the labelling.
With regard to the facts mentioned above, CAFIA ordered the seller to withdraw the lot in question from retail network without any undue delay and will initiate and administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
