The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered two retail operators to immediately withdraw two lots of confectionary products of Polish production from sale. Detection of the amount of allergens compared to the information on the labelling was the reason for those steps.
Foodstuff Wafelki jogurtowe o smaku truskawkowym, weight 180 g, best before date by 23rd November 2019, producer: Zakłady Przemysłu cukierniczego “SKAWA” S.A., Dr. Putka 1, 34-100 Wadowice was concerned. The producer stated on the labelling that the foodstuff “may contain peanuts and nuts”, however, the laboratory analysis proved presence of peanuts amounting to 754 mg/kg. This amount is 30 times higher than so-called trace amount and consumers thus obtained misleading information on the food composition.
The inspectors sampled the foodstuff in question at the premises of Můj obchod s.r.o., Smetanova 21, Hrochův Týnec.
The second case concerned foodstuff Černobíla mléčno-kakaová pochoutka, weight 80 g, best before date by 19th October 2019, producer: Chocomoco Kinga Rzepecka, Rynek Zygmunta Starego 21, 05-480 Karczew, Poland. The labelling provided consumer with following information: “may contain traces of peanuts, other nuts and gluten”, however, the laboratory results proved peanuts amounting to 386 mg/kg. This amount is thus 15 times higher that so-called trace amount, consumers were thus misled as regards food composition.
CAFIA sampled the foodstuff in question at the premises of VERNER POTRAVINY s.r.o., Husovo náměstí 36, 552 03 Česká Skalice.
The foodstuffs mentioned above may represent a significant health risk to persons with allergy or intolerance to peanuts and CAFIA therefore ordered the inspected persons to immediately withdraw the lots in question from the market.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
