CAFIA found 1.1 t of basmati rice 10 times exceeding the limit for pesticide

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found non-compliant foodstuff Swagat Rýže Basmati – Pure basmati rice old Crop packaging à 1 kg and 5kg, with best before date by 09/2021, country of origin: India.

Laboratory analysis performed in the CAFIA accredited laboratory confirmed presence of pesticides tricyclazole amounting to 0.12 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and thiametoxam amounting to 0.027 mg/kg. Legislation sets that the maximum acceptable amount of both substances must not be higher than 0.01 mg/kg. Placing the food lot concerned on the market, the operator violated Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 on maximum residue levels of pesticides in foodstuffs.

CAFIA inspectors sampled the lot in question in retail of company BOUSSAD AMIS, Spálená 89/15, Prague. Company Swagat s.r.o. is then the importer of the foodstuff.

According to submitted documentation, the total volume of the non-compliant lot is 1,100 kg.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a sanction with the inspected person.
