CAFIA fined sellers for antibiotics in honey

05/03/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) informs that by its decision made within the first stage of appeal, fines were imposed to sellers of honey of company Včelpo s.r.o., in which laboratory analysis proved presence of antibiotic residues. The total amount of fines imposed to all sellers who placed the defective lots of honey on the market is 5,920,000.-CZK.

Within the inspection activity carried out from October to December 2015, CAFIA detected 29 lots of honey made by company Včelpo in which laboratory analysis proved presence of residues of antibiotics. Presence of such substances is banned by respective legislation and the foodstuffs were thus regarded as unsuitable for human consumption. CAFIA ordered their immediate withdrawal from the retail network.

The overview of non-compliant samples taken at company Včelpo is available on the Food Pillory portal, for further details, see CAFIA press releases of 26th November 2015 and 1st December 2015.
