CAFIA finds adulterate jams and plum jams again and again

08/04/2014

Three lots of jams and one lot of plum jam failing to comply with parameters laid down by legislation were banned from putting into circulation. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) imposed the ban on the jams as they showed evidence of adulteration. Laboratory analysis revealed lower content of fruit than indicated on the labelling, presence of non-declared fruit as well as lower content of fruit sugars and added sugars. Following non-compliant products were concerned:
(Ahold) BASIC JAM RASPBERY (EXTRA DŽEM MALINOVÝ) packaged à 450 g with best before date by September 2015, the producer was not specified, country of origin: the Netherlands. Following information was given on the labelling: 45 g of fruit were used for the production of 100 g of the final product. However, laboratory analysis proved only 33.5 g of fruit in 100 g of the final product. The analysis also proved presence of sorbitol which indicates presence of other sorts of fruit than raspberries. CAFIA sampled the jam at the premises of company AHOLD Czech Republic, a. s. on Radniční street in Most.
Švestková povidla s Jackem (Plum jam)packaged à 235 g with best before date by 31. 1. 2015, producer: Lucie Bayerová, Na Rampách 7, Praha 9-Vinoř, country of origin: the Czech Republic. Following information was given on the labelling: Product contains 177 g of plums in 100 g of the final product. However, the laboratory analysis proved no more than 120 g of plums in 100 g of the final product. CAFIA sampled the jam at the premises of Kateřina Strnadová on Taufer street in Prague.
