Laboratory analysis of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) confirmed presence of pesticide carboxin amounting to 0.51 milligram per kilogram (mg/kg) in a lot of blue poppy seeds, which is a concentration tenfold higher than permitted by applicable legislation (0.05mg/kg). The lot concerned had weight of 18 tons.

CAFIA took a sample at the inspected person – TRIAS CR s.r.o., Píšťovy, 848, 53701 Chrudim. The seller kept the consignment in the storage until the analysis was finished. With regard to the fact that the result of the analysis confirmed violation of legislation, CAFIA did not release the defective lot on the market and the lot thus did not affect consumers. Company BIRLIK BAHARAT SAN.TIC.LTD.STI, 1145/4 SOKAK.NO.10, YENISEHIR, IZMIR 35110, Turkey is the producer of the non-compliant lot of blue poppy seeds.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
