CAFIA did not release “Organic Jasmine Tea” from China into the CR due to content of four pesticides

07/04/2018

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release a consignment of tea originating from China onto the EU internal market. The consignment was detected in co-operation with the Customs Authorities Prague – Ruzyně. The inspectors firstly detained the consignment in the customs area for the purposes of sampling for a laboratory analysis. Results of the analysis of the foodstuff under name Imperial Grade Jasmine Pearls confirmed that the producer labelled the consignment as “Certified Organic”, however, the tea in question exceeded the maximum permitted limits in four types of pesticides.

The analysis detected that pesticide fipronil was present in the concentration amounting to 0.023 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), (the maximum permitted limit is 0.005 mg/kg); hexaflumuron was present in the amount of 0.03 mg/kg (the maximum permitted limit is 0.01 mg/kg); pyridaben of 0.12 mg/kg (the maximum permitted limit is 0.05 mg/kg) and tolfenpyrad of 0.45 mg/kg (the maximum permitted limit is 0.01 mg/kg).

Company Wang Hong Yao, Yunnan Sourcing, Kunming Park, Phase II, Panlong District, KUNMING, Yunnan was the supplier of the tea from China and operator Martin Špimr, Prague was then the receiver in the CR.

With regard to the failure to comply with the limits for presence of pesticides, CAFIA inspectors decided that the consignment would not be released on the EU internal market, and health of consumers thus was not threatened.
