CAFIA did not release green tea from China due to content of three pesticides

01/07/2019

In co-operation with the Customs Authorities in Prague – Ruzyně, inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release onto the CZ (EU) internal market a consignment of tea from China. The inspectors detained the consignment in the customs area of the airport at first to take samples for a laboratory analysis. Results of the analysis of tea with name Green Snail proved that three pesticides present in the tea concerned exceeded permitted limits.

CAFIA laboratory analysis detected following concentrations of 3 pesticides in the sample of tea: acetamiprid amounting to 0.11 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg, maximum permitted limit is 0.05 mg/kg), imidacloprid amounting to 0.14 mg/kg (maximum permitted limit is 0.05 mg/kg), and tolfenpyrad amounting to 0.081 mg/kg (maximum permitted limit is 0.01 mg/kg).

Company Hunan Runtang Trading Co. Ltd., Sunshine 100 International New City, Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan is the supplier of the tea from China and company AMANA s.r.o. is than the importer into the CR.

With regard to the failure to keep the limits for presence of pesticides, CAFIA inspectors decided not to release the consignment onto the EU internal market and consumers thus were not threatened.
