CAFIA did not release consignment with 8 thousand litres of pickled bamboo into the CR

04/20/2015

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) in co-operation with the Customs Authorities of the Czech Republic for the Capital City of Prague did not release a container with possibly unsafe pickled bamboo sprouts onto the market. All 455 packages – tins à 18 litres – showed signs of starting corrosion and 10 packages were already heavily corroded. The tins were also partially deformed. The unsuitable conditions of the packages failed to rule out the possibility of contamination of the content and the foodstuff could be thus unsafe. Based on the given facts, the consignment destined for company Gastronomy trading s.r.o. (importer) was not released onto internal EU market and consumers were thus not posed to the risk of contamination by unsuitable foodstuff. Pursuant to the accompanying documentation, company GUANGZHOU LINGYUAN IMP. & EXP. TRADING CO. LTD, China was the consigner of the delivery.
