CAFIA detected wine Pálava with 84% of added water

06/01/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) continues with intensive inspections of production and further stages of placing of wine and winery products on the market. These inspections were, inter alia, focused on new obligations related to the amendment to the Act on Viticulture and Viniculture.

During the inspection carried out at the premises of company DAJOZ s.r.o. on Hlavní ulice in Dolní Bojanovice, the inspectors, apart from other operations, took a sample stored in a 50 l KEG barrel. The sample was taken for a laboratory analysis. According to the accompanying documentation, following wine was concerned: Pálava variety, white wine, semi-sweet, producer Juraj Uhlár, Višťuk 31, country of origin: Slovakia.

Company DAJOZ s.r.o. was the so-called receiver of the wine – the first subject that placed the wine on the Czech market – and CAFIA inspectors took the sample during the mandatory 10 days protective period starting from reporting the import of wine from abroad during which the receiver has to keep the wine at the premises. This obligation is laid down by the amendment to the Act on Viticulture and Viniculture.

The analysis carried out by the CAFIA laboratory proved addition of water amounting to 84% of the volume of the sample. The analysis further revealed addition of saccharose amounting to 28.6 g per one litre. Both actions are regarded as unauthorised oenological practices and CAFIA therefore ordered disposal of the non-compliant lot in question.

CAFIA will enter the information into the European system for fight against adulterated foodstuffs AACS and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
