CAFIA detected sale of food supplements containing unauthorised substance for erection enhancement

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) made an inspection purchase on www.vigrx.cz and sampled food supplement VigRX Plus that contained unauthorised substance sildenafil.

Sildenafil is used for treatment of erectile dysfunction. This substance is authorised for the use in medicaments only and with regard to possible undesirable effects, these medicaments can be prescribed by medical practitioners only. However, food supplements are foodstuffs in which presence of sildenafil is prohibited.

Laboratory analysis proved presence of sildenafil in following lot of the product: VigRX Plus, Lot 011198, use by date by 10/2020, producer: Leading Edge Herbals, 2414 4 th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80631, country of origin: USA, namely amounting to 13.95 mg in one tablet.

According to the delivery note, company Dushanbe s.r.o., J. Vojtaššáka 3148/8, Žilina, Slovak Republic was the supplier of the product into the EU.

CAFIA entered the information on the detection into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.

Also on its websites, CAFIA repeatedly urges consumers to be careful when purchasing food supplements on the Internet.
