Within a targeted inspection activity focused on safety of imported foodstuffs, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found 9 non-compliant lots of fresh foodstuffs in a volume exceeding 1.6 tons originating in Cambodia and Thailand. The inspections were carried out in co-operation with the Customs Authorities Prague – Ruzyně.

The reason for non-compliance was exceeding the maximum permitted limits for presence of pesticide residues. In some cases, the detected values ​​were an order of magnitude larger than the limit set by legislation. The analysis performed by the national reference laboratory within CAFIA confirmed exceeding limits for 1 up to 8 pesticide residues in single lots.

Following foodstuffs are concerned:

RED CHILLI, Lot No. C074, lot size: 130 kg, non-compliant parameters: benzalkonium chloride (detected: 0.28 mg/kg, limit: 0.1 mg/kg), fenpropathrin (detected: 0.14 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), triazophos (detected: 0.14 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg). Sweet Basil, LOT: SHP0282A, lot size: 168.2 kg, non-compliant parameters: chlorfenapyr (detected: 0.42 mg/kg, limit: 0.02 mg/kg), chlorothalonil (detected: 2.2 mg/kg, limit: 0.02 mg/kg), lufenuron (detected 0.064 mg/kg, limit 0.02 mg/kg), methomyl (detected: 0.066 mg/kg, limit: 0.02 mg/kg). Chilli papričky červené (red chilli peppers), Lot: SHP0282A, lot size: 98 kg, non-compliant parameters: hexaconazole (detected 0.057 mg/kg, limit 0.01 mg/kg), chlorpyrifos (detected: 0.039 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), profenofos (detected: 0.029 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), propiconazole (detected 0.040 mg/kg, limit 0.01 mg/kg). Chilli Red Small, LOT: SHP 284A, lot size: 499.8 kg, non-compliant parameters: acephate (detected: 0.025 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), chlorfenapyr (detected: 0.059 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), famoxadone (detected: 0.027 mg/kg, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), prochloraz (detected: 0.20 mg/kg, limit: 0.03 mg/kg). CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
