CAFIA closed shop and banned using vehicles for transport of food in SAPA

11/22/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an inspection activity at the Prague market hall SAPA. The inspection was carried out in co-operation with the Police of the CR, the Customs Authorities and the State Veterinary Administration. CAFIA inspectors focused, inter alia, on keeping hygiene regulations during sale, storage and transport of foodstuffs.

With regard to unacceptable hygiene situation, CAFIA inspectors had to close premises of inspected person Son Tung Pham. The inspection detected presence of rodents’ excrements both on the selling area and in the background as well. The inspectors further banned placing of 61 kg of foodstuffs on the market as they were not provided with accompanying documentation, which is one of the elementary requirements of food legislation enabling to trace a foodstuff within the distribution chain.

CAFIA inspectors further imposed ban on a vehicle used by inspected person Trán Ngoc Thach for transport of foodstuffs. The inspection revealed excrements of rodents in the vehicle as well as neglected cleaning in a long-time horizon, foodstuffs with missing labelling in Czech language and missing documents on the origin of a part of foodstuffs.

Frozen products were transported under inappropriate temperature conditions in further vehicle. Defrosting of foodstuffs may cause bacterial contamination.

Another vehicle transported non-food items together with foodstuffs which were thus threatened with contamination. Further vehicle transported non-compliant packaged vegetables, herbs and tofu. These foodstuffs were banned for deficiencies regarding hygiene and labelling.

In total the inspectors identified deficiencies in five transport vehicles and one premises. CAFIA banned placing the foodstuffs on the market and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
