CAFIA banned the sale of eight kilograms of pork meat in Delvita on Jihlavská Street in Brno

07/16/2007

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned the sale of and ordered to destroy more than eight kilograms of pork meat in Delvita on Jihlavská Street, Brno. This was one of the conclusions of an inspection carried out by the CAFIA on Friday 13 July in the early evening.

The reason for the ban was that meat unsuitable for human consumption was stored in a cooling box at the rear of the store. It was a mixture of pieces of raw pork meat (pork shoulder, neck, chop) which was intended to be heat treated in the store as a mixture for grilling. Slices of meat showing signs of rot were mixed with healthy meat and the mixture was seasoned with a spice mixture.

According to the shop manager, this meat was intended to be transported to the rendering plant. However, the meat was not labelled as such.

The CAFIA referred the findings of the inspection to the State Veterinary Administration.

In past six days, the CAFIA also checked, among others, other Delvita and Billa stores. No deficiencies regarding the sale of meat and meat products were found in one of the Delvita store in Liberec. Similarly, no deficiencies were identified in Delvita stores in Zlín, Blansko, on Sedláčkova Street in Brno, in Otrokovice, Jihlava, Jablonec, Most, Litvínov, and in a Billa store in Brno, Křídlovická Street.

In Billa on Sousedská Street in Plzeň, the inspectors ordered to set up freezing equipment so that foodstuffs were stored at appropriate temperatures. In Delvita in Prague, they ordered to withdraw fourteen expired confectionery products.
