The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) pays a high attention to cases of consumers’ deception and has currently banned a batch of plum jam with a proportion of fruit ingredients about one third lower than stated on the labelling.
CAFIA ordered company Albert Česká republika, s.r.o. to immediately withdraw non-compliant foodstuff Gustona ŠVESTKOVÁ POVIDLA with best befory date by 25 February 2024, producer: RISO - R s.r.o., Košická cesta 2074, 97901 Rimavská Sobota, Slovakia, country of origin: Slovakia. The foodstuff in question has to be withdrawn from the whole retail network.
The producer stated, inter alia: “170 g of fruit were used to produce 100 g of the final product.” However, laboratory analysis performed in an accredited laboratory confirmed that 100 g of the final product was made from 111 g of fruit only. The consumers were thus misled by information about the composition of the foodstuff.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
In the case of processed fruit products, the weight of the fruit is always stated in its original unprocessed state. The weight of the stated fruit is therefore always higher than the weight of the final product containing that fruit in its already processed state.
