CAFIA banned confectionary products with several orders higher amount of allergens than provided on the labelling

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found two lots of confectionary products from abroad at which laboratory analyses confirmed severalfold higher presence of allergenic substances than indicated on the labelling of the foodstuffs in question. Following products which were found in retail network, namely at the premises of COOP družstvo Velké Meziřící, Družstvení 1173/2, 594 01 Velké Meziřící were concerned:

MAGNAT Chocolate Joy (Chocolate bonbons) packaged à 107 g with best before date by 30. 10. 2019, lot: L320, producer: FPH MAGNAT SP.j Sadkówek 18, 55-080 Katy Wroclawskie, Poland. The laboratory analysis confirmed presence of peanuts amounting to 8,323 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). The producer indicated on the labelling, inter alia, that “the product might contain peanuts.”, however, the amount admissible as unintentional cross contamination, i.e. traces of peanuts was exceeded by several orders.

MILLENNIUM DARK PRALINE (Bitter chocolate) packaged à 38 g with best before date by 15. 03. 20, producer: LLC “MALBI FOODS”, the Ukraine and following information indicated on the labelling: “Seller: Multifood’s Europe Sp. z odor., BialejWoody 6, Warszawa, Poland”. The laboratory analysis confirmed presence of peanuts amounting to 565 mg/kg. The producer indicated on the labelling, inter alia, that the product might contain peanuts.”, however, the amount admissible as unintentional cross contamination, i.e. traces of peanuts was exceeded by several orders.

The foodstuffs mentioned above may pose significant health risk to persons with allergy or intolerance to peanuts. CAFIA therefore ordered the inspected person to immediately withdraw the lots in question from the market. At the same time CAFIA recommends all consumers suffering from allergy or intolerance to peanuts that they do not eat these lots of foodstuffs.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
