Box “gluten-free diet” sold on the Internet contained gluten

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an inspection of Internet shop www.adifit.cz and sampled gluten-free meals sold as so-called „box diet“ offered within a week nutrition programme.

However, laboratory analysis proved presence of high content of gluten exceeding 8,000 mg/kg (the maximum permitted limit is 20 mg/kg) in meals sold under names „Snídaně – pomazánka s řapíkatým celerem, drůbeží šánka, vícezrnné pečivo“ (Breakfast – spread with stalk celery, poultry ham, multi-cereal bread) and „Snídaně – domácí marmeláda s vícezrným pečive, hroznové víno“ (Breakfast – homemade marmalade with multi-cereal bread, grapes) with use by date by 3rd May 2016.

Distributing the meals to consumers, persons suffering from an allergy to gluten were directly threaten, they could have serious health complications if they ate them. Meals were made by company Adifit s.r.o., Na Stráni 750/23, 31200 Plzeň at the premises on Školní street 400/2, Plzeň.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
