The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter "CAFIA" only) detected a foodstuff with high presence of non-declared allergens. It is a case of confectionery product Clue Classic – Biscuits with hazelnuts, caramel, raisins and puffed rice in milk chocolate, weight 93 g, best before date 9. 2. 2013, producer: Jutrzenka Colian Sp. z o.o. St. Zdojowa 1, 62-860 Opatówek, Poland. Importer and distributor: FRAPE FOODS s.r.o., Toužim.
Label on the product packaging contained following information: Product could contain trace amount of peanuts. However, the laboratory analysis detected peanuts in amount over 8,000 mg/kg, which exceeds the tolerated trace amount by several ten times. The peanuts are strong allergens and could cause serious health complications after unintentional consumption by an allergic person.
Pursuant to Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002, the foodstuff was found to be injurious to health, and CAFIA ordered its withdrawal from commercial network. 7,560 pieces of the foodstuff were distributed, especially to the stores of retail chain Hruška, 1,250 pieces were withdrawn, the rest was already sold.
The Inspection Authority revealed the same deficiency at confectionery product Japs super, Bars coated with coca cream, weight 300 g, best before date 2. 4. 2013, producer Fabryka Wyrobóv Cukierniczych JAGO Jan Gogolewski ZPCH, street Objazdowa 2, 85-882 Bydgoszcz, importer Jiří Bluml, Přadlácká 63, 550 01 Broumov. Label on the product packaging contained following information: Product could contain trace amount of peanuts. However, the laboratory analysis detected peanuts in amount over 1,400 mg/kg which exceeds the tolerated trace amount by ten times. The product was detected in retail network at only minor seller who had bought it in Kaufland Sp.z o.o. Sp.k, Walbrzych in Poland. With regard to the fact that the product is labelled, inter alia, in Czech language, CAFIA further investigates in which volume the product in question had been distributed into the Czech Republic.
