The Food Law sets forth an obligation for the producers to announce start of their productions, which means to get registered with an appropriate inspection body. The CAFIA database of registrations comprised 4,244 businesspersons (places of business), 5,224 business premises (places of inspection) and 6,769 productions by 1999-12-31.
The highest number of registered productions referred to commodities such as bread (1577), confectioneries - pastries (1182) and cold meal (914). CAFIA, as part of its activities, actively searches for non-registered producers and performs inspections in their places of business.
