Agricultural products from the fields and gardens affected by floods could be dangerous

06/09/2013

Besides the food devaluated by flood water the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) warns the customers about the possible danger from crops of flooded fields and gardens. Due to the contamination by flood water there is a high risk of incidence of dangerous pathogenic microorganisms and germs of dangerous diseases. Other risk is presented by harmful contamination of industrial or agricultural chemical particles.
CAFIA strongly recommends to customers not to consume these crops even after thermal processing, which may not be sufficient to risk elimination. CAFIA also recommends to retail premises operators to use the principle of preliminary caution and not to sell the affected crops. CAFIA has already offered cooperation in preparing the reports on damages and to suggest solutions to all registered food producers and retail premises operators affected by floods.
